Ontario Health Recommendations for Antiviral Therapy of Seasonal Influenza
Ontario Health has developed clinical recommendations for antiviral therapy of seasonal influenza. The document is available on the Ontario Health website: Recommendations for Antiviral Therapy of Seasonal Influenza.
This document provides guidance on the appropriate prescribing of antivirals, incorporating the latest evidence from clinical trials and real-world studies. This includes net new recommendations for the appropriate prescribing of oral baloxavir, intravenous zanamivir, and intravenous peramivir that are currently not included in the existing Association of Medical Microbiology and Infectious Disease (AMMI) Canada influenza treatment guidelines.
These recommendations are intended to inform and support evidence-based clinical best practice. Please note pharmacoeconomic assessments are beyond the scope of the clinical guidance document.
UofT DFCM Patient Newsletter/Education Repository
The UofT DFCM’s Quality Program Committee is putting together a repository of newsletters and patient education resources to allow different teaching sites to share resources. Currently, there are some resources on clinical topics like cancer screening, measles, and Lyme disease, as well as non-clinical items like avoiding walk-in clinics. They hope to eventually grow the repository through submissions from different sites.
Visit the repository HERE.

Applications are now being accepted for the next cohort of Supporting the Journey Home: Growing the Community Bundle to Care for Those with Serious Illness, a free, co-designed palliative care education program for health care providers working in First Nations communities across Ontario.
This 9-week program includes three modules and 9 total 1.5-hour sessions:
- Gathering Early in the Journey: identifying clients who may benefit from an early palliative approach to care
- Communicating in an Honest, Clear, and Healing Way: supporting advance care planning and goals of care conversations
- Strengthening Connections among Community Helpers: building collaboration with caregivers and external partners
The program supports interdisciplinary community care providers, including physicians, nurses, social/mental wellness workers, PSWs, CHNs, CHRs, Elders, and others who care for those with serious illness in First Nations communities. It is designed for providers seeking to integrate an early palliative approach into their practice, not for palliative care specialists.
