Stroke
A stroke happens when blood flow to part of the brain is blocked or when a blood vessel in the brain bursts. Without oxygen-rich blood, brain cells begin to die within minutes. This can lead to serious brain damage, disability, or even death.
There are two main types:
- Ischemic stroke – caused by a blockage in a blood vessel supplying the brain.
- Hemorrhagic stroke – caused by a blood vessel bursting in the brain.
A Transient Ischemic Attack (TIA), or “mini-stroke,” is a temporary blockage that doesn’t cause permanent damage but is a warning sign of a future stroke.
